Hi, please browse the galleries by clicking on the links above....As you will see, a strong connection with the sea is evident in my work; in particular the industrial landscape with its metal hulls, rusting nails and weathered boards. The process of layering, scraping and shaping the paint allows me to play with both surface and depth and explore the tension between formal structure and the element of chance. Although the overall aesthetic is my strongest guide, symbolism and metaphors also play a part; lighthouses, anchors, ports, welded signage, plimsol lines, nautical maps and more recently sailor tattoos suggest navigation, safety, survival and a sense of place.
